PLANNING, MAPPING, & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

WHAT WE DO

If you are interested in getting information and resources on comprehensive planning, hazard mitigation planning, zoning and subdivision regulations, ordinance updates, land use planning, infrastructure and service planning and implementation, annexation studies, GIS mapping, SEIRPC staff can provide professional level assistance.

HOW WE DO IT

SEIRPC works with each city and county to provide a service or plan that fits them and the future they want. Many services are planning-grant supported and are augmented with local funds to reduce total cost. It can range from as little as "as needed - on call" service to establishing a contract for a more specific or ongoing project.

DID YOU KNOW?

The SEIRPC region is a designated Economic Development District by the U.S. Economic Development Administration. The Economic Development District (EDD) designation gives southeast Iowa unique opportunities for planning, infrastructure and other grants to effect economic recovery, resiliency and opportunity. EDD status is the heart of SEIRPC’s origin as a regional planning commission and its ability to serve southeast Iowa members.

SEIRPC resides in the 10-state Denver Region that includes Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado and Utah. Iowa, SEIRPC is one of 15 EDDs.

The southeast Iowa Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) is the guiding document of SEIRPC regional services and initiatives. SEIRPC combines its Long-Range Transportation Plan and CEDS into a single strategic document that streamlines input, data analysis and process. You can view the CEDS here.

SEIRPC must maintain several items to remain an EDD: Regional coverage, updated CEDS, board composition requirements, good standing with EDA, and organizational competency and capacity. SEIRPC has leveraged over $250 million dollars into southeast Iowa through its EDD status providing a core of support for grant writing, planning, technical assistance and economic development.
